well it's time to take the big jump....now i have to go over all my notes gathered as to what i want to get going with the rifle....one question i have is if i order a stock from pecatonica river are the a, b, c, d profiles they will inlet the stock for me be standard with all the barrel makers for the same size profile barrels................bob

Bob, that sounds like a phone call, just to be sure. I would order my stock and barrel from the same supplier, that way if it's way off it's their problem and not yours, and I guess the same would be for the lock if they're going to rough mortice it. Your other alternative is to buy the barrel and send it to them, so they get it right. I'm assuming the wood and barrel are the two most expensive pieces. Just :m2c: worth Bill

Bob I have heard there are some variation in dim's from Getz to some of the other makers you may want to call who ever you choose to do your stock and get there advise. You may want the barrel in hand and have them cut to your profile , may cause less headaches. Have you decided what barrel you want because you may have a long wait just to get the barrel 6mo to a 1-1/2yr ? depending who you go with :m2c:

i'll most likely go with a rice barrel and a pecatonica stock with a large deluxe siler from jim chambers which pecatonica does inletting for there locks....i'll just leave the trigger slot to do myself....i will call pecatoninca and talk with them with the dimentions from rice's site or call him too to get the mesurments from him to give to pecatonica..............bob

Bob,
I would also call pactonia and ask them if they inlet for a rice barrel. They may have the dementions to put into the milling machine for this barrel already. Probably be best to give Pactonia and Rice both a call.

If you go with a unshaped blank, you can have Fred Miller inlet the barrel for less than the difference between a rough-shaped and a pre-inlet stock. BUT, you have to do all the rest of the lock and profile work yourself.

Fred Miller
RD#1 Box 146
Mifflinburg PA 17844
570-922-1861

He specializes in barrel inletting and does it for many pro gunsmiths as a sub-contractor (whether ever mentioned to the final customer or not).

Just to add to Stumpkillers post, if you look at the pic's I posted in my "short rifle project", Thats Fred Millers work, pic's taken right after I took it out of the box. :)

Dont forget Fred can machine shape your stock to one of his patterns (he only has about 20 pluss to choose from)and depending on the lock he can do that too. He helped me get my start in this buisness 15 or more years ago along with Bill Kennedy. Both guys are great people to work with. BJH

Does Fred have a website that lists his 20 stock patterns or do ya just call him up?

You will have to call him 570-922-1861. Between 6 and 9 pm EST. Or at lunch time. He has no phone in the shop. He does not play with computers like us. :sorry: BJH
