ohio gun season

its gun season here in ohio . and the smallest cal. m. l. we can use is 38 cal . i own a 50 and a 40 cal. caplock . last year i didnt hunt with my 40 . though this is my favorite , and really a shooter . i did not think a .400 round ball would do the trick . i knew it would kill the deer but wasnt sure of the blood trail from the smaller hole. so this year i thought what the heck , give it a try . killed one yesterday at 35 yards both lungs and the top of the heart . he didnt travel 75 yards , a hole in and out and plenty of blood . today i shot a nice doe at about 30 yards . she dropped like i spine shot her . when i field dressed her there was only an intrance hole . no exit . i thought it was kinda funny . the last one went through .
when i got into her chest i wanted to see her heart . it wasnt there . nothing but mush . this 40 cal. ball completly distroyed her heart . seemed like it exploded . i serched through the guts and couldnt find but peaces of the ball .

im shooting 395 ball and a 20 thousands patch . with 70 grns. powder . i wont be afraid of this lil ball not doing the job ever again . so now i have given up on the bullet idea . h

sorry guys , i havnt taken pictures of dead deer for several years now . i just shootum and butcherum . i wll try to remember to take the camera for the next one . h

Nice going the .40 is a good little deer gun just keep the shots closer than you would with big bore is a good rule of thumb.
