I know, I know, but let's get out of the garage and into the woods where "lubed" means bore buttered, Lehigh Valleyed, or patched with some other non-petroleum based product. Will the oiled patch attract more residue, thus making cleaning more of a chore? Any benefits to either?

If by "oiled' you mean petroleum based, yes, the oil will have a negative effect on the powder and promote fouling;
The benefit to the non-petroleum lubes is just the opposite...borebutter patches can sit on powder all day and have no effect, plus fouling is minimized and kept soft so the bore walls are more easily 'wiped' the next time a patched ball is seated downbore.

Where does olive oil and castor oil fall into this equation?

I have played with olive oil/beeswax, straight olive oil and am thinking on the moose juice and moose snot recipes that were posted here about 2 weeks back.

Your input on these for us,

thanks
Brett

Brett, if you meant that as a question to me, I can't speak from personal experience about those so I'll have to pass, sorry

Long ago I used a mixture of Bear Grease and water soluable oil. It worked great. Anyone ever played with that kind of mixture?

Hi Roundball,
Asking from the point of those afore mentioned oils and waxes, not being petroleum based.

Spit works best for me for target shooting, but I use bear oil with just a bit of beeswax for hunting loads. I use the same patch material for both loads, (no pre-cuts), and see no difference in accuracy or point of impact.
