What is a good way to check for runout? Check barrel thickness at each flat at the muzzle and breech w/ calipers and figure it out from there? Kind of hard to eyeball for runout.

that is the way i would do it if the rifling did not give you a fals reading. the other way would be to put something bore size in and measure to it from the flats.
now the way to deal with run out if you find any is if one end is on and the other has run out make the end with the run out the breach. if you have run out at both ends take the end with the least and make that your muzzle. also put the runout up or down that way you can make your sights high or lower to take care of it. never put is so you have to use windage to get the rifle sighted in.
