Stumbled across these old cans of Goex today...can tops were screwed on good and tight, powder appears to be in perfect condition...made September 11, 1980 at the Belin plant in Moosic, PA. Granulations seem an eyelash finer than today’s Goex 2F and 3F.

if I was you I would'nt trust it - send to me for proper disposal!
I was given a can of DuPont powder by an old-timer years back when I first got into BP shooting. I believe it was the best powder I've ever burned! but I've never tryed Swiss, hear it's the best these days.

On a serious note, I did pour the contents out and examine it carefully to make sure nobody laced it with smokeless powder, etc...and even at that I will only use it in small target charges in my thick barreled .40cal

I'm still using Dupont that I bought back in the 60's. $2.60 a pound. kept cool and dry it will last almost forever.

All my old Goes from February 79 has price tags on it. It was $2.75 a can from a store called Argonaut. Talk about depreciation! I got it for free!

I have some just like them I purchased ----- boy I don't know how long ago. Still fire right off just like new.

Last explosion was in 1997 and killed only 2 employees. Previous explosions often killed more employees before the plant was mostly automated.

The plant was closed after the 1997 explosion due to it's proximity to the local airport - within a stone's throw. A fire burned the plant to the gound in 2001.

I live about 4 miles from where the plant used to be and used to hunt not far from there.

I miss the plant being here but I dont miss it blowing up every 5 or 10 years and taking several people with it

Just got back from a 50 shot range session using 50grn charges of the 28 year old Goex 2F in a .45cal...it acted like 3F...very energetic, accurate, little fouling, etc...wish I had a couple cases of it

BP can only get weaker from exposure to water, even in the air, but can never get stronger than it was made. Use away with out fear!

Last summer at a small remote show I picked up a pound each of old Goex FF and FFF. The FF can is stamped 85JU14 and ignites just fine. The FFF can is stamped 3-15 but can't make out the year. Haven't tried the FFF.

I could only talk the guy down from $28 to $15 for both pounds. I guess $7.50/lb ain't too bad.

Not to sound like one of the "Sky is Falling" guys but, when a person buys Black Powder from a guy at a gun show they are taking a risk.

Not all brands come in a sealed container and there is always a possibility that some moron has added some smokeless powder, "Just to give it a little more power."

Just something to think about. :hmm:
