Hello all. I hope this is the place to post this. I've got an old double CVA caplock 12 gauge that I really enjoy shooting, and tote around with me on my land when I'm in rattler / copperhead areas. (That's plenty of land down here in SC, btw.)

Today, somehow, I lost my barrel wedge. Just gone. Don't have a clue how it came out, don't know where it is, and don't have much hope of finding it. Didn't even know it was loose. Sheesh!

Any tips on where I could either buy a replacement, or how to make one that wouldn't be an embarassment? (I've already figured it'd be easy enough to just use angle and shop grinders on some bar steel to make something functional. I'd rather have something that looks decent, though.

All suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks!

You might give CVA a call. They don't make that one anymore, but they have a lot of various parts still. I'm sure the wedge was probably common across many of their models, and a high replacement item also, so they probably kept a bunch in stock. If not, you can probably modify some other wedge to fit easily enough.

I'm not an expert by any stretch, but I second the notion to call CVA. Allow about a half hour to get in touch with them, but my experience talking with their customer service (twice) about my Tower Pistol kit, a kit which was discontinuted in 1985 was very positive. And from my experience, they had all but 2 of the parts I needed (out of a pretty extensive list).

A real shame they don't do sidelocks anymore.

check on dixies or track of the wolf site, i believe they had wedges for sale.

Danny at [email protected] (CVA parts) is who I dealt with, he is knowledgeable and helpful.

Thanks for the suggestion, gentlemen. I've already sent an eMail, so hopefully I'll be able to get one (or maybe I should get two  ).

I still wonder how I could have just lost it after so many years. seems kinda odd to me.

Indeed, as there's a real demand for ARW era reproductions. I have the same CVA Tower pistol, I wasn't aware they stopped production as far back as 1985!

When did CVA switch to Spanish parts? I think my Tower is Spanish, but I'm uncertain about a 1975-era Phila Derringer kit gun. Would that be US-made?

If you measure the width of the dovetail slot for the wedge, you can call Dixie, and they will find you one that will fit it. You may have to do a little filing, but that it okay. If you get a replacement key that is a bit loose, just peen it with a hammer( as in ball-peen hammer) to widen it, and it should be able to fit very snug. Some people frill a very small hole in the wedge head, and solder a loop of wire in it. Then they attach a string to the loopand the other end looped over one of the ecutcheon screws, so that the wedge stays with the gun when it comes out. I just made sure my wedge was tight enough I didn't have to worry about it coming loose.
