Evening all, I recently purchased two old hickory knives that include the 7" butcher and this 8" slicer. For the $20.00 spent on both of these knives I'm absolutely blown away... Steel is amazing and the ability to take a razors edge is phenomenal. I've been wanting a larger longhunter style blade and in my pursuit I settled on the vary well known Mora classic #3. However, this blade only lacked the true old time feel. So, I'm sure glad I have settled on the slicer. It's large, but certainly not a clumsy blade nor heavy. It has a precise feel and balance that means business. So, worked on her all day from a blade re-profile, good sharpening with plenty of leather stropping time, scale work/ leather wrap, forced patina finish and the sheath. Hope this gives some people ideas or inspiration! :hatsoff:
Sheath is made from 6oz leather, dyed and distressed. Double stiched with sinew and a welted seam. I used linen thread for the beadwork which was honestly the most time consuming part of the job. All the seams were then coated with beeswax and the whole sheath has been coated with handrubbed pure mink tallow.
Next project will be the butcher knife sheath!
