Hey folks,

Figured I’d better introduce myself before I go poking around too much. Name’s Scott, and I live in Southern Idaho, and I’ve been hunting for as long as I can remember, which nowadays it's very far back. Spent a good chunk of my life guiding hunts, but had to hang that up when my hip decided it was time for an upgrade. These days, I still love being out in the woods, but I’m shifting gears a bit, getting into collecting instead of just using guns to hunt.

Black powder’s always fascinated me, but I never took the time to really appreciate it. Now, I want to dig in, learn the history, and start building a collection I can eventually pass down to my grandkids (got 7 so far, grandkids that is, hoping for a whole lot more). I figure there’s something special about teaching the next generation to slow down, load up the right way, and feel the smoke roll out from a well-fired shot.

I’m here to learn, swap stories, and pick the brains of folks who know way more than I do. If you’ve got advice on good starter pieces for a guy looking to do this right, I’m all ears.

Looking forward to chatting with you all.

Scott

1) a flintlock rifle or musket ( Kentucky / Pennsylvania / Southern Mountain variant, Trade Gun variant, etc )
2) a BP revolver ( Colt 1860 New Army or Remington 1858 New Army, etc )
3) a flintlock pistol ( Trapper, Kentucky, Harper's Ferry, etc )

Those will get you well-started down the "rabbit hole". ;)
