Don't stuff it that rifle is worth a considerable sum of money DO NOT TOUCH IT ,keep it as is and if you have the knowledge to lightly clean it do so ,this was most likely knocked off by a GI at the end of WW11 and brought home to the US.
 
I really appreciate all the posts about this rifle. as of right now I plan on doing nothing to it but , clean it and keep it in the gun closet. it is truly a gem. hopefully i'll have it for a very long time. :) like I say, thanks again everyone! if anyone has any more info on the maker, I'd really love to hear about it. I plan to get better pictures to post on here. :)
 
L. Wesphal is the makers name. Peine is the city the rifle was made in. Peine is located in northern Germany, about 10 kilometers from Brunswick (Braunschweig). I go through Peine several times a year, we own a home in a neighbouring town.
I agree with others, I would certainly not do anything to this fine jaeger rifle.
