Can anyone tell me about this old tin? I believe it is a shot or powder container but I am not sure. It contains some old and not very round shot and has some kind of embossed logo of stylised letters. Maybe a large C containing an S and another C. It is about 6" high and has the numeral '8' stamped on the base.

You got a Curtis & Harvey powder or shot tin. I have not seen a shot tin but have seen a few Powder tins. I know Curtis and Harvey did make and sell gun powder and shot.

The letters embossed is a C and a H. In the oval there would have been a black sticker with white wording on it that said. CURTIS'S and HARVEY'S FFF GUN POWDER HOUNSLOW LONDON
Something like this http://www.neaca.com/images/Curtis_and_Harvey_Gun_Powder_Tin_3_.JPG
