Last evening of season, a medium size doe fell to the Blast of "Ole Thunder" , my .73 cal. rifled carbine.................the second shot was loaded in under 15sec. using a tapered paper cartridge. It was not needed, but it sure is nice having a loaded gun, just in case.

Time was well spent this summer, hand lapping and finding a load and patch combinations that worked on a clean barrel, first shot. Several hundred balls were shot trying to get that first shot to group with the dirty barrel second and third shots. I finally had to go to a heavier canvas patch to keep from blowing holes in the first patch.

And the best part was........................

as the sights settled on the deer's shoulder...............Ole Thunder went off without even having to think about pulling the trigger.............flames and smoke were seen escaping the large bore.

Fresh jerky and sausage are on the way!

I just ordered a 5# sausage stuffer, and plan to try making some deer sausage sticks. My jerky is now eatable, so it is time to start making sausage sticks.

Good deal BS. A .73 cal?? WOW. I'd bet she never twitched.
