You get the piece you see in the photo's right down to the measurements and flaws,
Shipping is fast and costs are reasonable.
Keith and his family started all this running the rendezvous circuit here in the upper mid-west. Then settled into that shop in St. Charles, even putting up a new building after a few years.
I sure miss seeing those guy's and his "scrap box" at the vous,, I think they still attend some of the big ones.
I need to place another order myself soon.

Only thing I find missing is a little more info on the temper of the sides. You have size, thickness and color, but the temper can surprise you a little now and then. To their credit, ask about the temper of a piece and they'll describe it accurately.

Good question for anyone ordering leather.

Here is a good definition, along with some other useful terms.

Here is another handy set of definitions, though they don't discuss temper.

Those sources give you a good idea of what to order and what to expect. For example, I'm building some small cases right now that need to keep their rigid shape while protecting contents. I ordered 7-8 oz with a firm temper. What I got was perfect.

For rigidity, you could just give them the cuir bouilli treatment. Dampen, bake in your oven til dry at 140°.

Good suggestion. I've done that before with thinner leather, but in this particular application the treated thinner leather "work softens" too much over time. The heavier leather beats that.

Give Springfield leather a try. They carry Hermann Oak as well as import leather and if you don't need a lot will cut you a piece. If you make things for sale let them know and they will give you a discount even if you don't have a business license.

They look good too!

I had a gift card for $100 to Tandy and went thru most of it yesterday. I did get a good buy on some 8 oz double shoulder european that is perfect for my current project.

Looks like my future purchases will be online for sure!

Thanks for these leads.
