I started the day off in the far thicket and saw plenty of action. Several smaller basket rack bucks were moving back and forth searching for a hot doe. Later, a doe come busting out of the thicket followed by 2 bucks...both on the smaller side.

About 1pm, I came out of the woods and switched locations. I decided I hated the place that I had picked for the 2nd location and moved up the treeline and into the woods about 100 yards. I sat down at the base of a cedar where a few rubs dotted the edge of the woods. A yearling doe materialized about 15 minutes after I had been there...about 40 yards from me and fed on browse for about an hour. She bedded down there and I figured that was a pretty good sign. A few hours passed and she got back up and continued to feed. All at once I saw here look up and jump a few times...I figured a buck was coming and in about a minute a 2.5yr 8point entered the scene. He ignored the yearling doe and came down the edge toward me. I watched as he moved to within about 10 yards and started making a licking branch, chewing on the limb and raking it with his 14" rack. I just watched him as I am hoping for a larger buck, or a doe later on and it was so cool to be so close with him doing that. In the middle of jerking his head this way and that he spotted me and FROZE. His eyes got large and he blew and jumped a few bounds. THen, he made his way back into the thicket...

Ahhhh...it was good to be in the woods.

Good luck if you get out and congrats to those that made meat!!
