1862 Colt Police with very rare 6.5" barrel, range ready !
This .36 cal. Colt has all matching serial numbers & remains in exceptionally nice tight condition & locks up in perfect alignment, bright bore & rifling !
Serial number 31,76x indicates manufactured in 1865.
**Out of approximately 28,000 1862 models manufactured it's estimated 70% were converted to cartridge, leaving only 8,400 in their original state like this example.
This 1862 Colt with 6.5" barrel is also considered the rarest model, it's estimated only 2,200 were mfg. with this barrel length.
Unlike later edition Colts & Italian replicas, this original Colt features progressive twist rifling for superior accuracy.
The original nipples remain in nice shape, also Included is a new replacement set of quality Treso nipples.
Online research will validate factory stampings on earlier 1862 Colts like this pistol are often struck very light & frequently lack some of the factory markings, likely due to rush to keep up with military contract orders.
Photos of the 1862 Colt shown online in the NRA Museum validates various factory markings that are often missing or lightly stamped.
Possibly due to trying to keep up with Civil War production.
Photos show this rare 6.5" barrel Colt has all matching serial numbers & is among those produced without stamp in the the cylinder flute & frame..
Later model I862's mfg. after the Civil War often have clearer markings..
This Colt shows no signs of being refinished.
Photos in high resolution, zoom-in for close detail.
This pistol priced at $2,250 plus actual cost of USPO Priority shipping & insurance &
prefer payment by US Postal Money Order.
**Consider trade for original flintlock pistol or deluxe target repro model by Pedersoli or German mfg. Hage copy of Manton.
Feel free to contact me with any questions or additional photos.
