Howdy,

I have a Remington New Army revolver and from the serial number I've narrowed down the manufacture date to either Jan. or Feb. of 1865. There are also the military marks on the grips.

I'm just wondering who might have carried it, or being that it was made so late in the war, I wonder if maybe it was used in the western theatre afterwards???

My guess was that it was most likely carried by a U.S army officer....Anyone have any ideas?

No way to know unless you can find records of guns recieved by a particular unit with serial numbers included. With a production date that late it's very doubtful it was used in the war. Were plenty of troops stationed in the South during reconstruction or it could have gone out west.

Congratulations on having an original Remington !

Am guessing you have already been to:
http://www.remingtonsociety.com/

Another resource is:
http://www.usmartialarmscollector.com/

US Martial Arms Collector includes Springfield Research Service (SRS)

SRS collected lots of data from military records sources down to company records compiled by those who issued/stored/inventoried the arms. It does cost money to join US Martial Arms Collector and to get serial number information from SRS if available.

Best of luck in your search.
