This is believed to be an original 1840-1860 NY half-stock rifle. Gulcher lock is stamped on the inside by Wm. Moore and Co., who I believe built the rifle. I mic'ed the bore at .353, so assuming I'm correct, I guess you'd call it a .35 caliber (it won't accept a .36 jag). The lock and triggers are strong and function perfectly. The barrel appears to have been ground down to smooth and bore appears clear (I don't have a bore light and couldn't find a jag/patch that would fit). At some point the tang was replaced with what appears to be German silver, although I have no idea why. Otherwise the gun is in remarkable condition. I never shot it because I wanted someone more competent than myself to go over it and I simply never got around to and now have some other projects that I'd like to finance so I'm letting it go.

I'd prefer Paypal friends and family, although I'll take a USPS money order as well. $800 including shipping within CONUS in a wooden box.

Nice rifle. I have an original Ohio from the same time period.

The muzzle on mine measures about what your does, leading me to originally think it was a .35/.36. Turns out the muzzle was coned and the bore is a .32. Might be the same with yours.

Owning an original rifle is very pleasing to me even if I don’t shoot it. Having that amount of money tied up in basically emotion hanging on the wall isn’t for everyone, so give it a little time. You will find a buyer.

Thanks. Interesting about the coning and your bore diameter and you may be right. I purchased this gun entirely to keep for myself just because of the cool factor, but as with most of us, I've come up with a few projects that I'd like to be involved with and it's easier to do this than to pull the money out of savings (at least my wife thinks so).

I've seen similar originals sell for much more, particularly in this condition, so I'm actually a bit surprised it hasn't sold yet, but this is definitely more of a "want to sell" than a "need to sell", so I'm not in any hurry.

Davey Boy,

If you click (tap) on the poster’s username picture, it will show you where they say they are located (if they choose to list it). I have attached a pic of GANGREEN’s, and of yours, for examples.
