This is a worn, but fully functional Smith Carbine Receiver has sling ring/bar, "Address/Poultney & Trimble/Baltimore U.S.A." and "Smith's Patent/June 23, 1857" at left side. Condition is good showing no original finish but generally smooth gray gunmetal having fine edges and markings. Stocks are sound with the normal marks of military use and "BA" carved at right butt. Action is smooth. Barrel hinge has some slight play, but is secure. A thin shim would tightenit up. No danger with proper loads. Bore is bright with very good rifling and some light pitting. A good, shootable example. $1100 + Shipping.
