As I have been looking into pouring my own ammo and realizing that "pure lead" is best I've been on the hunt for a lead source. Most of what I found was at the scarp yards at $1.00 a lb and hard to tell what you were getting purity wise.
Yesterday found 99.8% pure lead "caulking lead" at .72 cents a lb, $3.60 per 5 lb ingot, FREE shiping to the wholesaler! (bought 200 lbs) at: Direct distributer FlashCo 360-225-4662 who routed through a local whole saler Ferguson 503-620-9211.
Both companies have locations in other states.
IF this helps GREAT if not I got mine

Wow, I've just begun looking into pure lead sources. $19.00 for 5lb ingot from McMaster Carr out of Cleveland Oh. I'll definately look into your source. Thanks!

If your are looking for lead, check with your plumber.

Plumbers buy lead in ingots, not sure what the price is, but it might be worth a look at you local plumbing supply store.

Letting your fingers do the walking which is cheap and does not require much physical exerction, saves gas also.

I bought a lot of lead at scrap yards, it was cheap then.

I belong to a black powder club, "The Muscogee Long Rifles". After each range secession, I take a small child's pale out to the berms and dig out lead. I liquify it in my melting pot in my garage, making sure that I flux it with a pinch of parafin wax. This brings any impurities in the lead to the surface so that I can spoon them off. I pour the rest in my various moulds for excellent 99.9% pure lead projectiles at virtually no cost.

THATS what led me to the outlet I have listed here; A plumbing wholesaler and direct manufacturer.

Wattsy,
Either you are a plumber and/or your tied in tight (family) with Ferguson in the Portland area, I called your outfit and was quoted X amount of $ direct to me for their scrap if I pick up, I gave the guy (Brent) your quoted cost and he laughed out loud. I am a plumber in the Bend area and have been dealing with the local Ferguson for 15 yrs and still cannot get the kind of deals you are quoting.

Man thats to bad cuz Im NOT in tight. Im not even in the trades. I started at Morlans plumbing and tey quoted me $1.00 a lb for the "caluking lead" but didnt have any so sugested that I go over to Fergason's. It took them 15 min to understand identify what I wanted, they called the manucaturer and walla even cheaper as no mark up for Morlans!
BUT it makes me wonder IF we are talking the same Co. I couldent imagine this place haveing "scrap" as they dont "DO" anything just sell plumbing stuff.
