Is parrifin a no no in these guns?

I smear lube (wonder lube or crisco) over the end of the cylinder. With a properly sized ball you don't have to worry about chain fires. So, anything over the cylinder mouth should be considered lube. Chain fires come from the back side from loose fitting or caps falling off.
Take a look at some period pictures. They didn't use any sort of lube over the cylinder mouth. All you see is the ball sitting there ready to go.
I have shot thousands of rounds from C&B revolvers and never had a chain fire. I use the correct fitting caps and push them on with a soft piece of wood. Cap fit is critical.

I made a bunch using durofelt and wool trimmed from a capote project. Harbor Freight sells a set of punches cheap so I used the appropriate size. I lubed the felt with a lube made with lard beeswax and a bit of paraffin. Can’t remember the ratios. They work fine either between powder and ball or on top of the ball. I’ve not used them between the powder and ball for an extended time due to concerns about powder contamination from the lube.

So you can use parifin? I’ve got the felt but never thought to put it over the lead.

I just smear Crisco , Tallow or Lard over the chambers to keep the fouling soft. A revolver will run for a bunch of cylinders with lube over the chambers before you need to wipe it out.
It's easy, I keep it in a hinge top glass jar
I don't like lubed wads in contact with the powder anyway

I use .462”x.030” veggie fiber wads with bullets, which carry their own lube in the grooves. With ball I use el cheapo grey wool wads I picked up years ago at a gun show. I think I bought five bags of 1000 and I’m now running low. Don’t shoot as many round ball. I do have 45, 50, and 54 punches and a bunch of felt. Don’t use much of that but I work full time and prefer to spend time shooting rather than fooling with wads. Maybe when I retire.

paraffin is fine in Black Gunpowder guns. The Eras Gone recipe is one ounce of unsalted lard and four ounces of paraffin wax. Best used to soak pure wool 1/8" felt from Duro-Felt which makes a great revolver wad and should work under a ball in rifle. I use one in my Sharps paper tube cartridges.

Buy yourself a wad punch and a couple square feet of 1/8” wool felt from Dura-Felt in Little Rock.
Punch out your own wads, lube them, and save yourself big bucks.
I bought three thousand of the 44 wads and 1000 36 wads when they were cheap, but also a big chunk of felt from Duro-Felt some time back. Already had the right size punch (for both 36 and 44) in my leather working tools. I have soaked the Ox-Yoke wads in a home-brew lube though as the factory ones seemed to dry. Have to soak the Duro-Felt ones of course. Wads can be punched from old felt hats and a variety of proper felt. Have done that a few times over the years.
I use no over the ball lube, since using felt wads some 25 years ago, my bore has never been cleaner after a day of a lotta shots. Waste of time as after the first shot, that grease or whatever you smear over the balls gets blown off-all over you and the revolver. A proper fitting ball and use of a lubed felt wad will prevent any chain fire at the front of the cylinder. It's been proven that ill-fitting caps are the worse chain fire culprit. Fire a cap sometime in the dark without a loaded chamber and see the large area the flame from the cap firing encompasses. If your caps are not tight fitting, that flame will creep right under other loaded cylinders and "chain fire"! I've never had a chain fore in 51 years-knock on wood!!!!
