I'm wanting to de-shine / paint a canvas water bucket I've got. Any suggestions? Dye? Paint?

Remember making "Mud pies" when you where a youngin?
Well git some terra ferma, mix it water into a paste and rub it on the outside of your bucket leaving a good thick layer. Hang it to dry, then break the stuff off and brush it well.
If you rub well it'll take the shine off, plus what ever mineral you have in the local soil should stain the canvis.
