Looking at a Walker (still) DGW is made by Palmetto, how do they compare to ones made by Uberti?

One is reportedly a Trabant, the other a Rolls-Royce.

In that order.

Like many other things, replicas can be built up to a standard or down to a price. Uberti has many fans and a strong resale value. Palmetto not so much. If you see the two side by side & work the actions, you will see why.

This summer I purchased a Uberti Walker from DGW and it is fine example of Uberti quality. Action is smooth and timing is right on, best part, it shoots better than it looks!

Why would anyone go with the Palmetto when it is more expensive? :idunno:

Even Uberti produces different levels of quality. At least three levels. The best I know of is Cimarron, other than some outfits that use Uberti parts to make semi-customs. Uberti is the leader in quality for imports. Cimarron guns are special built to required specs from them to Uberti. Most of these requirements are in regards of fit and finish, but also bore sizing and degree of internal polish. That is no guarantee of equality to American guns, but is about as close as you will get from imported BP guns.

Does that include internal parts as well? I may be mistaken but I thought the difference in Uberti guns was external finish. My feeling was that the price delta between the different Uberti Walkers was about $100 reflected external finish and better case colors. I've never had the top and bottom tier uberti guns side by side to compare.

Not sure what you mean by the different Uberti Walkers? You have the Cimarron version and all the rest. That's it.
The Cimarron does cost a bit more if you're silly enough to buy direct from Cimarron. Buy it for Buffalo Arms and they discount them back to the regular Uberti price. I only buy Cimarron Uberti's, but you'll need a knowledgeable eye to see the difference between a Cimarron and a regular Uberti. What you will get with a Cimarron is no bad examples. They will all be nice, because too many people along the way check them. You'll never get a Cimarron that the box hasn't been opened. Cimarron checks every gun before they'll ship it. Their standards are pretty high. They pay Uberti extra for top quality guns.

Another thing to consider is that Palmetto is no longer in business. Needed parts will eventually if not already be hard to find.
