Hi

I was woundring what sort of paper to use, if i go one or two times around the bullet and where i can find a sorce for the right paper. I have this old army rifle that was made to shoot mine bullets problem is the cal whitch is .71 and the largest mould i have found is .69. Think it is possible to patch that bullet and get some sort of precission ?

Math: Dixie Gun Works sells paper patching paper. Other use Onionskin, or even cigarette papers you buy to " roll you own". Another suggesting looking for the fine strong paper that is used for lady's dress patterns. Any strong paper that measures .001" can be used for paper patching your bullets. You might need to take a micrometer to the office supply stores to find what you want. What they don't have in stock, they can order for you. Check the internet for other sources of direct supply, as you may save a lot of money buying on the internet.

I once saw a documentary on paper patched bullets. They used common bond or copier paper, cut into a triangles, wetted, and rolled unto the bullet 1 1/2 times. They started with about 1/4" below the base and folded it under. Hope this helps....Robin

OK this is highly secret cuz I learned it from an old indian (from India) It aint EXACTLYYYY PC but for a thin patch try teflon tape and if a thicker patch is desired try electricians tape.

I am using 25% cotton 9 pound paper. You can get it at a paper supply co. Mine is Eaton Air mail paper. I got it at a second hand store for .50 for 100 sheets.
You are not going to be able to use that heavy of paper. Paul is on to it with the paper for dress patterns.
It is very easy to learn to do. The patern for the template is also easy to make. If you sent me a bullet I could make one for you out of heavy cardboard. It would make two full wraps.

Regular writing paper of the right thickness may work. I used to shoot lighter weight bond paper. Before going to 9 pound 100 cotton union skin. This would be too thin for your use.
I would try the 69 minie bare first. They will shoot fairly well at .015-.020" under sized. This was about standard for combat loads.

Or you could just shoot PRBs. Recoil will be a lot milder.
Just make sure its SAFE to shoot before shooting it.
