parts for 58 remmy

Hi guys. Can i use parts from a Pietta or a uberti on a original 58 remmy? Tommy.

I would guess no, unless the part happens to be oversized, allowing you to reduce it to the right size.

I would take measurements before deciding one way or the other, and compare to comparable Uberti or Pietta parts. If dimensions are the same, they should work. But they probably are not.

No, i was thinking about springs and stirrups and things that can be worn.I was allso thinking about the cylinder. I can buy a 58 here in Sweden, but the cylinder is total rusty.It has been hanging in a barn loaded for maybe hundred years, so the cylinder is all bad. Tommy.

Uberti is supposed to be closer to the original parts, but that might only be for Colt guns.

On DixieGunWorks's website, they list Uberti parts as good for both reproduction and original guns.

How badly rusted is your Remington? As long as it's not heavy pitting, it might be salvageable.

The cylinder is realy bad. I have not seen something so rusty. The chambers is not round anymore, and a couple is open between the chambers. Sorry for my English. not easy to find the right words Tommy.

Ah, so really bad pitting that has made the cylinder out of round. What's the story on that Remington if one is known? How did it make its way to Sweden? Does it have US acceptance marks?

Here is a Uberti Remington cylinder. It is listed in the section for parts that fit an original gun. You should email them and ask. Most likely it or the hand will require hand fitting to index correctly. For reference, here are the sizes of my Dixie 1858 Remington .44 caliber cylinder. I am not sure who made it but it is Italian and it was proofed in 1985.

Outside Diameter: 1.605" (40,767 mm)
Length overall: 2.000" (50,800 mm)
Arbor hole (cylinder pin hole): .2785 (7.074 mm) Diameter
Center of cylinder to center of chamber: .503" (12,770 mm)
Chamber diameter: .448" (11,379 mm)
