I was curious to see if this would work: I bought an old hand saw at a flea mkt for a dollar, and so far have cut 5 patch knife blades out of it...I can get at least 3 more. I had a supply of deer antler pieces to use for handles...none of 'em are very pretty, but I'm getting a little better at making them...I figure they'll end up as prizes at one of our shoots...I'm going to try and get a picture of a couple on here if I can make photo bucket work..Hank

Hi Hank,

Can't wait to see your patch knives...when you post them.

What are you using to cut the patch knife blades from the saw blade? The saw blade steel should make a fine patch knife.

Nord, I'm using a Dremel cutting wheel..one blade consumes one of the little wheels, but the bigger sturdier ones will last for a number. The steel takes an edge well. I stick the blade in a vice and take the temper out of the tang with a propane torch, and am able to drill through with no trouble..I'll post those pictures this weekend..wish me luck as I'm lousy at photo posting Hank

well, here's an attempt to post a photo from photobucket...I apologize if it fails...Hank http://i60.photobucket.com/album/h36/Hnk_04/70d4f161.jpg (img)

For a simple patchknife try a piece of regular hacksaw blade, about 3 or 4". Saw a slot in an antler with a hacksaw blade and it will be a perfect fit, glue it and sharpen it. Holds an edge good.
