Has anyone kept track of the different concoctions made up to use as patch lube? It would be kinda fun to see a listing of kinds of goop used over the years. starting with my favorite, Spit. handy almost always available ,not very sanitaary...... Bob

I've seen at least 25, all kinds of animal fat, oils(olive), specialty BP lubes, moose snot/milk, skin oil, and my favorite - Go-Jo white hand cleaner. A recent post feller was shooting self-made/cast slugs and did a range report on 2 different lubes, got tighter groups with one so lube can make a difference. I found that a just damp patch was better than a 'sopping wet' patch. Seems like it would be other way around? I dry patch between shots when plinking and use a felt 'button' I punch out overpowder, get tighter groups.

Well, I used a grease that´s originaly produced to put on your hands when milking cows.
Cheap and easy to get. Kinda like vaseline.
Works good with maxiballs and also does it´s job as patch lube.

Right now I´m experimenting with a ballistol/water mix...

romeoh :hatsoff:

For competition black powder matches I use a 7 parts water and 1 part Ballistol mix, soak the patch material then lay it out and let the water evaporate out. Works great!

For hunting and general plinking I use deer tallow or a mix of 25% beeswax with 75% bear oil or straight bear oil. All works good.
