Am going to start making my own lubed patches using pillow ticking. Is there a certain dimension for each caliber(mine will be square)and what is the best way to mass lube these new patches? These lubed patches will be for .32, .36, .40, .50, and .54 roundball uses. In a short time last evening I cut 3 yd of cotton flannel into 1.5" squares for small bore cleaning. Thanks for your assistance.

I would say that a little bigger than the diameter if you bore.

Even the outside diameter would give you plenty to cover the round ball.

For instance: if your .50 cal is 1" across the flats, make a 1" patch.

Maybe there are recommended sizes that others could post, but I think this should be sufficient.

Just an opinion.....

What I have been doing, is to take a factory T/C patch, of the approprite caliber, and use it as a rough guide to cut my patches from Wally World pillow ticking. I have been cutting square patches, even though the T/C ones are round. The key is to have a sharp pair of scissors. Use the verticle stripes as a cutting guide. Surprising how many you can make in a short time. This must work as I shoot every weekend, PRB'S, and my accuracy has been excellent.

Here's another reference for you...I use TC's precut prelubed pillow ticking patches...their sizes are:

1+1/8" for .45/.50 calibers;

1+3/8" for .54/.58 calibers;

I suspect 1" patches would do well for the other smaller calibers you mentioned.

I find patches a little larger than absolutely necessary are easier to load and have no adverse affect on accuracy what so ever.
