I managed to get to the range today. After finding out the .020" patches I had bought were too thick Huntin Dawg sent me some .015" prelubed patches. The Cabela's near me didn't carry that thickness.
I was shooting at 50 yards with 70gr FFFg from my .50 TC Hawken.I put the first 3 rounds in a single ragged hole. The next 3 spread out a little, so I wiped the bore with a prelubed patch. The next 3 or 4 went into the same ragged hole. My next trip to the range I will try wiping between shots to see how that does.

Mikie, I would lie and tell you I was standing up like a man, but I rested the forearm on sandbags.
I was really doing more of a function test. I haven't even really started working up a load for it yet.

Glad to hear that I'am not the only one that shoots off a rest!
I know where it shoots but if I could get it to do the same thing off hand? Maybe someday. At least I know it's me and not the rifle.

I have to get used to shooting a rifle offhand.
I shoot bullseye pistol, which is single hand at 50 and 25 yards. I can usually hold my shots into the 8-ring, and most in the 9, 10 and X-rings at 50 yards. A rifle is just different.

I always shoot from a rest when working up loads, that way I can eliminate me as a factor(which is a good thing :rotf: )Once I get the load down I work on all of my problems which makes finding the right load look like childs play  At times I am scary accurate :yakyak: but often a Crippled Buffalo in the back of a pickup truck would be safe from me and my rifle  ..............John :applause:
