WHEN YOU GUYS PATCH OUT BETWEEN SHOOTS DO YOU USE A TIGHT PATCH OR A LOOSE ONE, AND IS IT REALTIVELY WET OR JUST DAMP.
CUT FINGER

I keep a thin patch in a water filled container and fallow with a dry one. If I don't have water on hand, I'll stick a patch in my mouth for a bit,
Mike.

I use patch damped with windx [ after loading ] whipe twice with each side of patch.

Today I used Windex with ammonia. Just got it damp using a misty spray bottle - swabbed with both sides of the fouled patch - then both sides of a dry patch.

I forgot to mention that I only use those 3" square or round patches. Get 300 for $5.99 at Meijer. :nono:

I use a looser cleaning patch than ball patch. I keep GO-JO creme hand cleaner in a small squeeze vial with nipple to put a couple drops on, doesn't take much. Really brings the black out.

All of the above sound OK to me. When I've got lots of time, am trying to achieve maximum accuracy, or working up a new load, I swab the bore out wet (water, soapy water, houshold or specific bore cleaners, waterless hand cleaner,...) and then dry. In my eyes, cleanliness and consistency are the name of the game. The first shot for a hunter is the most important and often only one. I don't like to track cripples, and instantly killed game puts better meat on the table. :v It's also more humane.

Damp, not wet, and not a tight fit. You want to "pick up" the fouling with the patch, not shove it against the breech plug.

With my .36 I run a spit patch down between shots. I carry 1 kind of patch in my bag, .018" ticking for PRB and swabbing. My .50 doesn't seem to suffer in loading ease or accuracy for at least 8 or ten shots, so I swab it out less often.
