you've all heard the one where someone screwed up and said "i have this buddy".... well, in this case, i really do have a buddy that was trying to clean up his Patriot trigger. why he thinks i'm a gunsmith, don't know... he'll be joining this forum soon, but i'm trying to help him out now.
here's the sad tale....somewhere in the steps he took, he tried annealing the spring for the set trigger but ended up having to bend it a bit. end result...when he pulls the set trigger, and then the hair trigger, the rocker compression spring doesn't have enough ooomph to force the rocker to trip the sear. he tried a #4 spring from a lock gunsmith that (smith doesn't work on BP guns), cut it down to the right length, and still no joy. T/C doesn't make parts anymore, and he and i searched brownells and wolff for the appropriate spring, with no luck. might just be we aren't smart enough to know the appropriate nomenclature. anyone have a clue what direction he should take next? frankly, he's expended what little expertise i might have gleaned from home smithing, and since i've never torn down one of these pistols i'm having to rely on mental images as he explained his tale of woe...
thanks in advance for any help, or smart assed comments aimed towards him!
