I took a few minutes away from the turkey prep today to do some quick and dirty patterning with my TVM .62 Fowler.
All patterns done at 25 yds. All loads were 1 1/8oz. of #6 magnum shot and an equal vol. of Goex FFg. One OS card on top.
The only difference between the loadings was the wad over the shot.
I shot only two of each. (quick)

BPS 1/2" hard card average 160 shot in a 30" circle = 63%.
BPS 1/4" hard card = 138 = 54%
Federal 20S1 wad = 122 = 48%
1/8"OP card and a 1/4" cushion = 114 = 45%
FWIW.

greetings pete,

was the pattern even or did it have the infamous hole in the center??

There was no hole in the center of any of the patterns. The patterns were, however, below POA; that may have been me. I shall be doing a more proper test, especially of the best pattern combo.

Pete, don't know if you're aware of this particular site about .62cal smoothbores, but I've found it extremely usful...a lot of good, proven, information...I use his recommended shot load for Turkey and it's been just outstanding.

Roundball, I second the comment of FPDoc. The smoothbore site was well worth the time to check it out. I'll be a new smoothbore shooter soon, and the information offered will be a great starting point for my 24 guage. :hatsoff:

You guys might want to send him a Email of thanks for sharing all that...I did and he responded, really seemed to appreciate it

That is certainly a good idea. I've read and re-read his articles, benefited from his time and experience and have not sent him a note of thanks. Got to keep in mind, as on this site, it's regular guys, not corporations here helping each other out and sharing discoveries and experiences, hard won, to rediscover and preserve things lost.

RB - Thanks for that link. It was/is an article worth reading. I'm going to try that roundball loading next time to the range. Just the other day I was thinking to myself about using fffg instead of ffg, and now this article reinforces that idea.
