Pedersoli .451 Volunteer Percussion Rifle

I just purchased a new Pedersoli .451 cal. Volunteer Rifle and have a few questions.
1. Do I use FFF black powder? If so, how much?
2. Can I use FFF pyrodex? If so, how much?
3.DO I need to use cards and wads when loading? Or can I load the lubed bullet right on the powder?
4. Is a lubed .45 cal. 460 grain bullet proper for this rifle?
5. What is the effective range of this long range muzzle-loader?
6. If anyone has the Volunteer, could you please give me some pointers/advice?
I have not fired mine yet and am getting the needed accessories first.

I have a Parker Hale, I used .95 gr Lyman bullet with a felt wad and 70 grains (pv) 3F black powder. Ditch the pyrodex.

Yes, FFFG pyrodex and or black powder will work. I use FFG Swiss powder in 45’s quite often. You don’t need a card or wad. 460 grain bullets should be fine, I’ve used bullets as light as 275 and as heavy as 525 in fast twist 45’s. Effective range of the 45-70, according to Army testing, was 2500 yards so… seriously competitive shooters shoot over 1000 yards with rifles like yours. Enjoy!
