This discussion about flint pistols has ignited a long lingering ember. I've always had a hankering for a flintlock, Kentucky/Pennsylvania style pistol. Dixie has a Pedersoli in 45 and 54, also in kit form. I was curious if anyone had any experience with either kit or finished firearm and what that experience might be, good or bad. Also, are there any other sources for a good flintlock pistol? Appreciation for replys stated in advance.

I have this one:

The only difference is that mine (a .54) has a color case hardened steel nose cap, the .45 and .50 have a brass nose cap. Got mine for $250 from Dixie. I haven't had a chance to shoot it yet (been too busy working on other gun 'projects'), but I've heard from other people that have one and they say theirs is very accurate once you work up the right load. The quality is excellent. I went with Pedersoli because I have a Pedersoli flint rifle that is also excellent quality, ignition is super-fast, and it's a fantastic shooter. I read an article in Blackpowder Hunting about a guy that used this same pistol (.54) to drop a doe with one shot at 25 yards. There's also a 'bounty hunter' version of this pistol with a barrel 6" longer, but it's kinda wierd lookin'.

They also make a maple/steel version with a browned barrel:

If you haven't seen it, check out the movie "Plunkett and Macleane".
Lots of action with flintlock pistols.
