Hello everyone, I have a Pedersoli Rocky Mountain Hawken, I called DGW for a replacement nipple and the lady told me I need the 1/4x28 NP1365 nipple- .250 steel, received them yesterday and they won't thread in seem too big, does anyone with this rifle know the correct nipple size? Thanks in advance for any information.

It may be a 8x1.25,also Track of the Wolf carry them
Pedersoli part number is 0800003407

It may also be a 6x.75 since Pedersoli used three different sizes

1/4x28
8x1.25
6x.75

Take the old nipple to your local hardware store. Most of the big box stores and the smaller more specialized hardware stores have thread gauge try boards in both standard US and metric sizes. once you find the opening where your nipple threads in, you have the thread description.

Modern recently posted Pedersoli information claims that the 1/4-28 is the size used.

8 mm will be too big at about 0.323.
6 mm might be possible at 0.243. Might be 6 - 1.0.

My Rocky Mountain Hawken takes a 1/4X28 nipple, as do my Pedersoli Frontier and Pennsylvania rifles. It is my understanding that all Pedersoli caplocks use the same nipple size. Maybe the threads on your gun a buggered up and need to be chased out with a tap.

Fyrstyk you are right, I went to True Value Hardware thanks to Grenadier1758's advice, the original nipple screwed into the 1/4X28 like butter, the DGW nipples all 3 are out of spec screwed in two turns then they stopped, also tried them in other sockets included metric thinking they sent me the wrong size with no joy, will try a different vendor. I appreciate eveyone's help, thank you.

Glad to hear you found out what the right thread size is.

Dixie sold and still sells nipples that are made to use in guns with worn out threads in their drums/snails. They are intentionally made oversize for that purpose.

It sounds like Dixie sent you some of these oversize nipples by mistake.

You might be able to send them back and get a refund but consider the time and postage you will need to spend before you talk to them.
It might not be worth the trouble and who knows? Some day you might buy a muzzleloader with worn out threads in it. :)

You mean like, "But, honey I had to buy this rifle; they sent me the wrong nipples and I didn't want them to go to waste."
