I recently bought a Pedersoli SxS 10 Gauge used from a gentleman, the guy knew absolutely nothing about it, didn’t know the name brand and thought it was a 12 gauge. Not even knowing what it was myself I bought it for $200, it appears to have never been fired so I am thinking I got a good deal.

After removing the barrels it is clearly marked as Pedersoli 10 gauge it appears to be similar if not the same as L.247 Side by Side Shotgun Waterfowl Standard Percussion model listed on the Pedersoli website. I have done all kinds of research on every website I could find, read the VM Starr articles, got the Track of the Wolf and Dixie Gun catalogs, ect. Of course still have some questions.

1. Trying to figure out what chokes the barrels are. Measured both with a caliper, both came out to .730. Does this make sense? Seems both would be full or extra full if the bore is a true .775.

2. Any way to tell the date of manufacture? Someone said look for a box with two letters stamped in it on the barrels, I couldn’t find anything.

3. Not sure if the barrels are chrome limned, they are nice any shinny but simply can’t tell.

Here is all the info from the bottom of the barrels:

Pedersoli 109 grains of black powder, 1 ½ Oz shot 10 Ga. Both barrels marked 18.3, 4 , PN. One barrel marked KG2 020, and a various maker / inspection marks.

I did email Pedersoli customer service about 4 weeks ago, I have not heard back.

Time to give it a shot, any other advice appreciated.

Thanks.

I used to have one in 12 ga. but have since traded it off. I remember researching the marks on the barrels too. I just can't seem to recall where I got my information from :hmm: If it doesn't have choke tubes, I believe it is an older one, like the one I had. Anyway, welcome to the forum and if nothing else, you should be able to double your money pretty easily, if you don't keep the gun.

dixie states this: cylider on the right hand and modified on the left hand

Jwill, the KG 2020 is it's pressure rating in kg/cm2.
I'm sure the PN is the date of manufacture but I have lost my darn code book :cursing:

All Pedersoli are chromed.

Mine IIRC was full and mod.

Sounds like you got a heavy bargain.

Does it have a cheek piece stock and sling swivels?
Took some good birds with mine

If you have poor ignition open the nipples up no larger than 1mm (is that 40thou?).

Thanks for the replies.

There is a ton of good information in this forum, I went through the entire smoothbore forum and read everything that seemed relevant.

I think with the tight chokes I will be forced to use the 4 OS card loading method, I tried a standard 10 ga over powder wad and I simply couldn’t get it to start without causing considerable damage to the wad.

Brit ”“ Yes, mine has the cheek piece stock and sling swivels. Supposedly my SxS was never fired and only used to take pictures of for some catalog and promotional work. The stock is one of the best pieces of wood I have seen on the standard model.

Thanks again.

Mine had some real nice wood and yes I had to just use the 4 cards for wads, works just fine.
If it gets crusty for them cards I place one in the muzzle and then from an old cap tin I thumb some patch lube on to the card and then add the other cards n' ram home.
