Never seen an ESEE with a handle like that! That's awesome! I'm all set on fixed blades right now, but for anyone interested, I can 110% attest to the quality of ESEE knives. I have an ESEE 3 and and ESEE 5. The 3 is perfect for an everyday carry fixed blade, and I keep the 5 in my hiking/bugout bag. But the ESEE 3 is more than capable of anything around camp. It'll cut, it'll baton wood, hell, you can use it as a prybar if you need to. They also have a lifetime guarantee on their knives, so if you manage to break it (UNLIKELY!), they'll replace it. I've put my ESEE blades through hell, and they've come out on top every single time.

I attend the Georgia Bushcraft gatherings. ESEE sets up a large display. While I do look over their table, like you noticed this handle is sure different.
