28 inch Barrel is signed AVERY and is believed to be G. Avery of Hamburg Berks County, PA. American long gunss are not my specialty but I've never seen one with a miquelet lock.

Influenced by a Norwegian or Swedish snap lock? You do see some different percussion lock arrangements now and again on American long rifles.

Yes, there would be 2 sear noses projecting through the lock plate from the inside, one for 1/2-cock and the other a full cock notch, if indeed a true Miquelet lock.

Hmmmm. Looks like some hybrid style of lock. Not a miquelet. But appears the maker's goal was to have all of the working parts on the outside of the lock plate, except the trigger bar. Would be interesting to see whats behind that plate.
