I'm curious as to how many on the Forum play one,Fiddle,juice(jews)harp,dulcermer,banjo,mandolins,penny-whistles,fifes,drums,and others.I make a lot of noise on the tenor (4 string) banjo) mandolin and mandola (tenor mandolin) I've built a few instruments and repaired some.always enjoyed folk style msic. ::

Gordy, I play the viola and the cello (seems like I'm mentioning this quite a bit recently :hmm:). Anyhow, both instruments were around way back when, though I don't know how many folks packed them outside the cities. The viola, which is basically an alto violin, possibly. The cello was probably considered too "high fallootin" for country folk. :: Anyhoo, I'm not good enough to play in an orchestra, but like Captchee says, I draw a bow now and again.

P.S. Note my new fancy, handy dandy bass clef avatar!

Lap dulicimer and indian flute. My wife has fife and is looking to take lessons.

I have 5 Dulcimers, but only play one at a time.:shake: Two were built for me. I like a deeper base sound with 4 to 5 strings. :shake:

Also play the Auto Harp. The originals go back to the late 17th to early 18th. cent. The more modern "chording" came in around 1870s and patended in a 1880 or so. I play the Chording Autoharp because the fingers do not work like they use too.... :hmm: :: :results:

Want to hear some rowdy...bawdy songs of the :-} West or old time Tavern Songs of questionable morals... :relax:
Lets' see...Charlot the Harrlot....Lady of the tavern.....Goes with Strawberry dunkin. :what: :youcrazy: :what:

Tipis,.... Have you put any of yore music on CD's??

I'm ready to "place an order"!!!! :haha:

my wife bought a banjo for me this year, but I haven't learned how to play it yet....not much time

I play bluegrass style mandolin, learning fiddle (sounds like I'm killing a cat) and I had to give up playing the flute due to adult asthma, don't have the lungs I use to... :boohoo:  :shake:

I want a lute and a dulcimers, I like the tones they produce...

Played trumpet, baritone, tuba & Sousaphone in High School. Not much call for Sousaphones at rendezvous. :(

(I figured Mouseketeer was doing something in the "base cleft" (aka: "low cut" :winking:) :peace:)

I have a fife and a couple penny whistles I can coax recognizable tunes out of. A relative passed along a violin that I was sawing away at, but THE ADMIRAL hid it and won't tell me where it is. I've lusted after a concertina for years, but balk at the $$$ for something I may never get hand tame.

My wife (THE ADMIRAL) has all the real musical talents. Percussion & concert piano (music major at WVU) and now she teaches music. She plays classical guitar beautifully and started on a 5-string banjo . . . but I hid that and won't tell her where it is.

Played electric guitar since 1962. All rock but I love bluegrass and would love to learn some of it some time. If I could master a few of them tunes, I would get an acoustic for rendezvous.

Great! Now I'm gonna be known as "Mouseketeer"! :shocking:Actually, it's probably a more suitable name for me than "Musketeer"!  Maybe I'll see if Claude'll let me change my screen name. :hmm: ::Thanks, Stumpy! You're a gentleman and a scholar. Or maybe a rifleman and a scrounger, I ain't figured out which yet.

P.S I also own a couple o' them fancy, new-fangled e-lek-tronik synthemasizers ( I program sounds fer ma friend's band), but I don't think they was real popular way back when, what with no e-lek-tricity and all!
