This is a photo of my Middle daughter, Ginny, And her first elk, taken last Dec. I took a bunch of pics with my digital camera, but appearantly it wasn't working right and all the photos came out too fuzzy to post here. Well, last night I found this pic on my cell phone that I forgot I took. I remember taking it so I could send it to friends and family just seconds after the elk fell. It wasn't until the next day, while I was driving out, that I finally hit a spot where I could find a signal. It's still not the best quality, but it'll have to do.

Ginny was 21 at the time and this was her second elk hunt and her first time taking any kind of game. We snuck right up on a small heard of grazing elk and the nearest one was a big fat cow standing broadside about 20 yards away. Ginny got on one knee, then stood, then back on her knee, while all the time I patiently had my .58 right on the cow's chest. She finally fired and the elk crow hopped a short ways and stopped. She was using her sister's .54 with 80 grains ffg goex and patched RB. The shot was too far back, in the ribs still but basically a gut shot. We got her rifle reloaded and walked close to the elk and she finished her off just above the heart.

With all the practicing and teaching and patience we went through together to get that elk, this kill meant more to me than any game I ever took. Still, when we were gutting it, Ginny did everything she could to not get her "new nails" yucky (OMG). Yep, she's a girl. Man I love that kid. Bill

That is great! Keeping the nails clean reminds me of my 14 year old Daughter who wanted to learn how to change the oil in the car. "You get your hands all oily?" "I'll just make my boyfriend do it" god they learn young don't they?

Thanks guys. Actually she didn't decide she wanted to be a "girl" until after she graduated from high school, when some of her friends became hairdressers and nail (fixers?) and such.

We put in again for cow elk this year, along with my youngest daughter (yes, I have three daughters), but didn't draw out :( . I will be going deer hunting with my oldest daughter if she can take time from her doctorate studies. We are going to try to make it a big time family camping trip like the ones we did when they were kids. Bill

Your a lucky man with a lucky family. Keep making those memories, after all family is where it's at.

Congrats! :hatsoff: I am also lucky enough to be able to hunt with my adult daughter and that is so very special! We also shoot trap and skeet together.
Dusty
