I don't know. It was a custom I bought. Here are the specs:
Built in the style of those 1840 - 1860 vintage Ohio halfstock rifles by John and Caleb Vincent, this piece attractively shaped and finished by Bruce Thomas. New and unfired the gun is ready to shoot. The figured maple stock has been stained an amber brown to best reveal the stripe and figure. The James Goodoien matchgrade barrel is finished to a dark pewter gray while the percussion lock is finished bright.
The .40 caliber cut rifled and hand lapped barrel, by NMLRA record holder James Goodoien, makes it perfect for target shooting. Now retired, James Goodoien is a serious student of the best rifle barrel makers of yesterday and today, Jim has mastered their techniques. After retiring as partner and manager of a large specialty printing company, Jim has focused his efforts on creating the best rifle barrels for his fellow shooters. His hobby is shooting, and his passion is perfection. His shop was outfitted with huge twin gun drills, rifling machines of his own design, massive milling machines, and special lathes.
Starting with selected round steel stock, Jim drills holes that are nearly perfectly straight. Bores are reamed to a mirror finish, using special reamers made in his shop. Rifling grooves are slowly cut in many passes, until correct depth. Outside flats are milled octagon to insure that the bore is perfectly concentric.
Breech ends are threaded for a plug, and muzzles are crowned. But most important, a lead slug is cast in the barrel, affixed to a lapping rod, and the barrel is hand lapped until the bore is perfect. No "break-in" period is required. Goodoien barrels are ready to produce best accuracy from the first shot.
The curly maple stock is finished to an amber brown to best display the figure through the buttstock. The brass furniture is well fitted and includes a deep crescent buttplate typical of Ohio longrifles from the mid 19th century. This rifle has captured the slim grace and feel of the original Ohio style rifles. These were not thick or clumsy, but were simple and elegant.
The forend is fitted with brass eschucheon plates around the barrel pin. A poured pewter forend cap protects the end grain of the stock. This rifle is fitted with 5/16" diameter ramrod that has been finished to compliment the stock. The ramrod tip is threaded 8-32 for loading and cleaning accessories.
This nice rifle has a 14" pull and weighs just 7.9 pounds, perfect for today's average sized shooter.
Viewed from the top, the breech plug tang tapers to a point. Study the above view, and notice how the cheek is angled to the rear, to recoil away from your face, an ingenious feature found on better rifles.
Note the delicate comb and wrist of the rifle that flow together behind the barrel. This petite rifle is a joy to hold and should prove even more fun to fire. Just ahead of the breech plug the stock is stamped with the James Goodieon, Blaine, MN makers' mark.
This bottom view shows the steel toeplate which protects the critical toe area during loading. Extra care has been taken to line up the screw slots. The stock has a Dutchman style repair just behind the triggerguard. The triggerguard is finished to a satin hand burnished appearance.
The late percussion G. Goulcher style cap lock has been finished armory bright to contrast the pewter gray finish of the barrel. The lock internals have been replaced with the forged springs from a William Cockran lock. The drum and nipple is well supported by the lock plate, critical on this style of ignition.
The R. E. Davis double lever double set triggers will fire from a set or unset position, and can be adjusted for trigger pull in the set position. A tiny adjustment screw, between the two triggers, controls trigger release. Turn it inboard to lighten the trigger pull in the set position. When enabled, you can set a very light trigger release, ideal for match shooting, or hunting small game in moderate weather.
The deep curved buttplate is comfortable to hold and engages your shoulder with surprising comfort. Although light weight, recoil should be modest with the .40 caliber barrel. Notice the classic Vincent sideplate, with single lock bolt, mounted flush with the side panel. The buttstock is shaped with a square cheek piece to give the shooter a comfortable platform to align the sights.
