Gents,
I bought this gun used. The 1951 and 1860s I owned years ago had straight grain wood in the grips nothing visually exceptional. This baby I got has a rather prettier set that has an almost burl type of grain. The grain is dark wide and thick in areas curved mixed in with more normal grain. The gun has been sighted because the front sight blade was filed and shoots as good as I am able. I was out of this hobby/sport for 2 years. Are the guns being marketed today have these nicer grips, or do you think they may have been applied by the previous owner. I wish I had a camera to show ya'll what I'm trin to describe. But thanks for any responses.

I guess my post rambled a bit. Does Pietta colts usually have nice grained grips or do ya'll think the grips are aftermarket.Just kinda got me curious.

I've got a Pietta 60 Colt and a 58 Remington plus a couple of extra sets for the 58. All of them are good quality walnut but nothing to brag about.

They are most likely original grips. Aftermarket grips for Italian repros are rare and expensive; it's very unlikely anyone would go to the trouble of finding and installing an unremarkable wood set.

Thanks!

That settles it I am gonna get some of the replacement Ivory look alike grips for it.

Thanks again,
James Taylor
