Today's purchase, an 1858 New Model Army was my first that came with a manual. My first cap & ball, an 1860 Colt Army, that I bought new in 1973 at a local gun shop did not include any paperwork except the receipt, which I still have.
 
I have an Uberti 1858. Both brands are great. It was because Colt's factory burnt down in 1862 that the U.S. army gave Remington a large contract to make these. Colt had a patent on groves on the arbor which helped prevent seizing up the cylinder.



 
The parts diagram is actually wrong. The hand (#10) mounts on the other side of the hammer and the side of the hammer shown should be on the other side.
Funny how they didn't catch that . . .
