I didn't want to hi-jack ian45662's post regarding his 58's age, but have wondered the same about mine. I see no xx? numbers stamped on the frame. The serial number is XR352xxx. The barrel is stamped BZ PN (*symbol crossed guns?*) ***.

Thank you.

If I'm understanding the proofing marks for Italian made items correctly it could be a 2-letter combination.
So"AC" would be a valid proof-mark, but for different years it could be roman numerals also.
I think that sometimes the substitution of "X"'s for actual digits is just to not reveal the full serial number, a common practice on shooting forums.

In the case of a serial number, many people substitute "x"'s for the numbers but looking at the numbers/letters shown in the above link indicate that there were several years when the Proof stamping uses "X"'s in combination with numbers to indicate the year the gun was proofed.
