looking at getting a traditions pioneer pistol in .45 cal as a kit. is this a ok gun? I have one of there kentuckys shoots good but want a smaller cal pistol.

Should shoot OK. I believe they both use the same lock and the Spanish barrels are pretty good. Actually, I would like to pick up one of the Pioneer pistols myself. Are you getting it from a dealer who stocks them. Would appreciate knowing.

possible shop has them in kit forum. thats where i'm going to order mine

I havent heard anything about them having problems. Is black powder big in Washington or just hanging on like Texas. I was born in Spokane and there was a shop called ED's Gunatorium I used to really enjoy going there. Geo. T.

Friend of mine put one together. He said it was a PITA and has a heavy trigger. Nice lookin once he got it together though.

A ten pound trigger pull seems the norm for Spanish muzzle loader pistols kits.

My first CVA flint pistol was that way back in 1971.

Although the Crockett and Pioneer pistols look like they could be target pistols if fitted with the better locks and single set trigger. O made the suggestion to Traditions in an e-mail. Never heard a word from them

"Real Powder"? I use pyrodex and my supply is 20 + years old, any problems with it???
Probably not but a number of people have noted that Pyrodex does seem to loose its power after it has been opened.

This power loss seems to develop after quite some period of time and to the best of my knowledge, no one has taken the time to actually test some long opened Pyrodex against some new Pyrodex powder to verify the validity of the claim.
