Hey All! :hatsoff:
One event that is very soon is the Piqua Heritage Festival in Piqua Ohio. http://www.piquaheritagefestival.com/index.htm
It is held every year on Labor Day weekend. It is held on the historical site of the Col. John Johnstons Home (which is still standing) one of the indian agents of the area. The house and grounds are owned by the Ohio Historical Society and are well kept. The house, barns, and springhouse have been totally restored, and there is also a museum. Also, it is adjacent to the old Miami-Erie Canal (on site) which has a working canal boat.
They have primative camping in two sections - one that has 90% of the period traders as well as food and craft tents and stuff for the kids, public invited. The other section is period camping (pre-1870"s) which is only open to the public 10:00 am to 6:00pm. Its too late for early signup, but you can still pay at the gate, but you have to be in by September 1 ,I think by dark.
Here are some of the doings ;
Camp activities include Range shooting, Bow shooting, Hawk + Knife, Flint and Steel, Children’s Costume Contest and others. These are open to men, women, juniors and half-pint, with the Costume Contest from infant to 13 years old. Prizes are awarded at Camp Meeting each evening at 7 p.m.
A Sunday morning worship service is held at 9 a.m.
There will be a designated area for handicapped campers.
Firewood, water and privies will be provided.
SET UP TIMES ARE AS FOLLOWS:-
Wednesday (August 30) after 10 a.m. Staff and pre-registered traders only
Thursday (Aug. 31) after 9 a.m. Pre-registered campers only
Friday (Sept. 1) after 9 a.m. Any campers and traders
It usually a pretty busy place, my favorite is the Sat and Sun target shoot (this year my 10 year old son and my wife will also be shooting.)
It looks like good weather this year so good food and fun for all. Might see y'all there.
