Have 1 of 2 done and wanted to share some pics with the forum.
It's a .40 smooth oct/round 8" long, small siler.
The lion/gargoyle buttcap was trully a pain to inlet :cursing: Took me at least 6 or 7 hours of painstaking work to get it in and then it still wasn't the best job.
The silver wire rolled over on me, but it did clean up some what.
This is the 1st of a presentation pair that is going in a lined oak case with all the "fixins"

That is really nice. I like the buttplate that you chose for it. Show us some pictures when you get them in the display case also.

Really nice and inspiring.
I hope to take this up as I just retired-hope I live long enough to get halfway good at it.

Thank you.
I used a dark stain at first, but didn't like it, so I re-sanded and used a LMF maple stain, but of course some of the darker stain stayed in the wood,
That's why there are those darker stripes.
Of course now I have to match this color to the other one that is almost done
Gun building is so much fun.
Rewarding and yet at the same time so frustrating.
I can pick out every error and flaw in that pistol.
Still trying to make the "perfect" rifle/pistol.

You will never make one that you think is perfect. You alone may know the mistakes, but others will not notice. That is the only downfall of being a perfectionist. The other guy will look at your work and see the real beauty. Sounds like your staining technique was not a mistake, but rather a neat shading technique. I may try that on lighter colored wood to bring out the details more. Thanks for the tip. :winking:
