I am interested in owning a replica flintlock pistol that lucky Jack would have used from about 1797 on. Are there any out there?

This is all I can find, but it's a start...

The pistol shown looks like a wheel-lock or earlier.
I would think the pistol should look more like the typical military single shot navy pistols from the Revolutionary war era.
Then again, I don't know anything about the character.

I haven't seen the movie, "Master And Commander", yet... It will be showing on, Dish - Pay Per View, in the month of June, so I intend to watch it all day, or at least twice, next weekend. I can't make any comments until then, sorry... :)

about half way through it and gave up. Maybe just me, and some of ya may really like it. To each their own i guess. Give me the Mountain Men, The Patriot, Last of the Mohicans, Jeremiah Johnson, Dances With Wolves, etc. and i'm happy.

Ouch,,, Rebel,,, I'll admit I'm a land lover but I do enjoy a good sea chase... Can't fined a thing wrong with the movies you listed! :applause:

Many thanks. :) I ordered the book: "Jack Aubrey's World from Amazon this date. Rebel: your favorite movie list looks much like mine. DWW heads my list.

After more research, thanks to Stumpkiller, I discovered that the Palmetto Arms Early Sea Pistol was in fact used in the film Master and Commander. It can also be seen in the Hornblower television series. The gun seems to only be available through a couple of Canadian distributors. One company offers the pistol in the early version with twelve inch barrel. Another has the later nine inch model as well, both in .62 (.60 actual) caliber. The price seems reasonable at $299 USD but the vents have not been drilled in order to facilitate shipping from Italy to Canada. I can't find a U.S. company that offers them.

Isn't it ironically funny that you got info on Jack Aubrey from someone that flies a pirate flag, (Stumpkiller) It is to laugh... :haha: :haha: :haha:

Arrrr. And where do ye think I picked up me crew? Jack Tars sick o' makin fat lords fatter in exchange for nuttin but salt pork and hard tack. The Royal Navy would impress a man without givin him a chance to say goodbye to his wife and kin and whip 'im if he talked back. It's a wonder any ship returned with a live officer. We pirates had the first working democracy (a hundred years afore Mr. Jefferson) and the first workmen's compensation plan for on-the-job accidents.

The crown liked us well enough when we was picking off the French and Spanish ships.

Aye, Stumpkiller, a pirate's life fer me, too!

Unless I'm wide o'me mark, that early sea servce pistol in yer picture is the one available through the Canadian firm of Loyalist Arms (I have one, it's my first and only black powder firearm, and I'm getting ready to start shooting with it).

Yes, you CAN have them shipped to you from Canada, vented. Mine came that way. You just have to have it shipped in 2 boxes. That way they can ship same as "firearms parts" rather than as firearms.
