This piece is a testament to the longevity of the flintlock as a useful firearm. It was a type originally manufactured in Portugal in the mid-late nineteenth century for colonies in Africa and South America. This trade continued well into twentieth century. The manufacturing timeliness and location gets murky. Research indicates they were also oroduced in Belgium and similarly stamped. The gun is stamped LAZARO LAZARINO and LEGITIMO DEBRAGA on top flat. There is a town in Portugal named Braga which was a center for all kinds of manufacturing. Interestingly, it has what appear to be post 1904 Birmingham proofs and the number 15 on left breech. Since bore is about .65, the 15 likely means 15 gauge. The bore has rough striations its full length, indicating it was mass produced and for shot only. I have been shooting 80 gr FFG under 100 gr by volume 7.5 shot. An unpatched ball might give adequate short range "accuracy." The barrel is 40.25" and LOP 13.25". Won't win any beauty contests, but fun. $300 + Shipping.
