This has been an on going project that has lasted about year. Rendezvous is just a couple of weeks away and I sort of get motivated to get things done.

The leather for the pouch I got from Tandy's leather warehouse. I think it is called "apron leather". I like it because of the character. The same leather was used for the strap. The buckle I forged from drill rod.

The pouch measures 8 inches x 6 3/4 inches. The tapestry I got from an antique store. After cutting the panels I wanted to use I cemented the tapestry material to the back side of the leather using barge cement. I sewed thin strips of burgandy wool felt around the edges using Barbour's 5 cord pure flax sinew with a running stitch.

The pouch was saddle stictched inside out using nylon saddle stitching thread from Tandy's. After turning the pouch rightside out I sewed the flap onto the pouch using the Barbour's cord.

The straps were sewn on with simple but a sturdy fashion to the back also using Barbour's cord. I was reluctant to put the beads on the strap. I refered to Madison Grant's book on "Kentucky rifle hunting pouches". Capt. Rogers had a very beaded pouch, other references in the book mentioned beaded pouches in the mid 1700's. The beads are greasy white and red hearts.

The powder horn I also made, hand forged the loop on the walnut plug. The Dragoon is covered in a thread on the forum. I also made the holster and strap using heavy harness leather I got from Tandy's.

Thanks for looking. Any comments or questions would be appreciated

Nice! I'll havta look for that leather, your right has a nice look to it, don't ever remember seeing it at Tandys. Really like what you did on the inside of the flap. I often looked at this area thinking theres something more that could be done there but never dawned on me to do something like you did with that tapestry. Very unique bag for sure.

I really like that. I like the way the running stitch looks, simple yet very functional. I sometimes think a saddle stitch is too, Busy?? The contrast with the wool is great!

Are the beads only in that spot? Or are there more along the strap?

That leather looka very similiar to some stuff I have; the leather shop called it a latigo tanned buffalo. The color and texture look almost identical. It's very supple, turns easy. I've made two bags from it so far and really love it.

Looks great Joe!!

Gentlemen thanks for all of your fine comments, much appreciated.

The beads are only what you see in the picture. Three lines on each strap just above the pouch. Each line consists of 10 greasy white, then 4 red white hearts, then another 10 greasy white. I thought that a few beads would look fine, but I didn't want to get carried away it.

Thanks again,

Joe
