Very nice job ,how are the little gold rings attached .Well done
The rings are 3/8" brass round stock. I drill and tap a 10-24 hole in it and chuck it in the lathe and drill a 1/4" hole though it, do the radius on both ends and use a parting tool to cut the ring off. Then I use a chunk of 10-24 brass screw to attach the ring to, which get solder on. The horn gets drilled and taped at the spout end with a 10-24 tap. The plug end I use a 1" brass wood screw # 10 with the head removed, then I chase threads 10-24 which gets a brass ring screwed on and soldered, then I drill a pilot hole for that to screw into which screws into the wooden plug. Hope this helps... Thank you all for your comments...Very nice job ,how are the little gold rings attached .
I can't scrimshaw either, arthritis and carpal tunnel. That is why I experimented with engraving. I even made several transfer templates. I found out you have to have a real light touch to avoid chips, and be prepared to sand out the chip as they happen. I still have some chips that I didn't sand out.Looks GREAT! I’very done a little scrimshaw, but I find it hard on my hands, mainly my fingers. I also like your brass attachment rings. Your horn all in all was very well executed.
Yes on the air graver.Oh wow! Did you use an air graver? Or by hand?
Looks like the experiment is a successExperimenting with engraving powder horns.
