Well I have talked the soon to be father-in-law into muzzleloading this year. Refurbishing a muzzleloader for him and sewing him a shooting bag. Going to start on a powder horn for him also. I have a questions on what style of script to write on the horn with. For lack of a better word what "Font" can I look at so that it looks like 18th Century writing when I scrimshaw his name or other stuff on it?

Check on line. I found a free font called "18th Century" and downloaded it to my word processing program. Might be what you need.

Sibley's book has photos of original horns that will give you good ideas. If you want to spend the money, Dresslar's book on the engraved powder horn is the one to get. One thing I've noticed is that the 'font' style varied about as much as the horner. Any sort of block lettering will probably pass...

Hi Kmolett, you could try a company called Walden Font at www.waldenfont.com and have a look at their fonts called Old State House & Minuteman Printshop (amongst their others) they are the best I can suggest as they have fonts with the long "s" which at a glance most people mistake for an "f" as well as some excellent clip-art amongst other things, Royal and patriotic crests & cyphers signatories of the Declaration of Independence lots of fun stuff for the re-enactor, Regards, Broadarrow
